There's One in Every Class!

Why is it that every class I've ever been in, there is always at least one person in it who is completely annoying and thinks they know everything?! Seriously, these types of people must thrive on the attention or something. Why do they even take the class---they know everything already anyway! Why aren't they *teaching* instead?? Oh, that's right, because you DON'T know everything and you are totally obnoxious.

Tonight I started my Spring Festivals class at church. I took the Fall Festivals class in the ---wait for it---FALL! lol anywho, Rick, the rabbi :) gave a brief history about the festivals and a backround/history lesson to start. So...we are moving right along. HOWEVER, this girl off to the side is twirling her pen that has beads hanging off of it the whole time, which is totally loud & distracting me (let alone Rick, I'm sure) and she keeps spouting off comments while Rick is teaching and like saying the answers before he even gets there. So, I think, she's one of "those." Ok great. And to aggravate me even more: she is saying the answers in this tone of voice like "duh, who doesn't know this stuff? Tell me something I don't know." Like she is annoyed and being forced to sit thru this. So---again I ask: why is she even taking this class?? Anywho, Rick gets to the part about how the Jewish religion gets broken up by the Romans, who began the Roman Catholic Church at this time and discouraged Jewish customs; although, they did "adopt" some festivals that are similar, even if "pagan." Jews have Pentacost, Passover, and the Sabbath to name a few. Non-Jews got Easter, Christmas and Sunday. The "all wise and powerful student" started going off about how Christmas shouldn't be celebrated because evergreens are symbols of something blah blah blah. And how easter eggs are symbolic of fertility and -oh- even rabbits are symbolized as sexual beasts blah blah blah. So Rick's all "so I'm a sinner because I celebrate Christmas with a christmas tree?" And she actually says, "Well, yeah, you are hinting at that. I mean you are like playing games, Rick."

My mouth was open and I couldn't believe what I was hearing...I mean, really?! People take somewhat unimportant things and dramatize them. Woah. And the best part was later Rick gave an example of how Jesus goes with the times and changes to speak to a peoples thru their specific culture...hence the now popular christmas trees & chocolate bunnies. One woman also gave this reference: when the Gentiles were sitting down to feast, they didn't wash their hands, like was traditionally done. The disciples asked Jesus why they were doing that and like why it was ok to eat with dirty hands...and Jesus said something to the tune of...it's not what they put in them that is dirty, it's what comes out of them that can be dirty. Good one Jesus!

(Honestly, my view (however unimportant), is it's all about intent...what's the motive? What's the focus? And if the only way I can get my 4 y.o. to see Jesus at easter time is to hide eggs with candy inside, then so be it.)

Day 11 Sitting with Myself 1 of 2. Length: 1 hour

I own a small, predominantly online handcrafted jewelry business. I have been in business 3 years, 5 months & 2 days - exactly the same amount of time that I've been sober because I am an alcoholic. I'd like to think my success in both of those areas are directly linked. I stay sober by making jewelry. Successfully selling jewelry keeps me from drinking. But what if sales decrease or straight up end? Would I drink again? I drop new jewelry on my website every Friday at 9am est. It is 11:30 and I have zero sales. In all the years in business, that has NEVER happened on a drop day. It's depressing. I've watched sales steadily decline over the past few months, often daydreaming about the what if's and the why's. Is it our declining economy? Is it crappy designs? It is me? Recently it was brought to my attention that I offended and upset one of my long-time, consistently supportive customers. I noticed that she hadn't placed an order in several weeks. I was...

Food 4 Thought

So I sit on my computer at 12:30 am, and wonder, yet again, what to blog about...I feel like my blog is lame and needs some sort of "theme." Why do I feel like I can't just write what I want?? so ~same bat time, same bat channel~ This past weekend has been ROUGH!! Brian is not working and his schedule just isnt vibing with me! I mean, there is no time to chill and think or veg out. It's go go go all the time. I did hear him say a few times this weekend that this is the busiest he's been in forever. So thank the Lord for that b/c today when I got home from volunteering at the church I was all "I'm napping."----- like end of story, not a question. And NAP I DID! I slept for over 4 hours!! GOOD LORD! I can't remember the last time I did that! Anywho, it was fabulous. But I'm pretty sure that I love *food* more than sleep. This has been a smorgasbord of food since our...um...tax return and I'm LOVING IT!! Friday was Doc Pierce's Saloon...

Just a Little Cat Pee

My husband and I leave our Song of Solomon marriage class lastnight feeling oh-so-romantic, because that was the topic...and feelin' all warm and fuzzy. I'm thinking: I hope the kids are asleep when we get home (if you know what I mean...). As we walk in the door, our 4 year old comes out with a big "Mawmaw you're HOME!" Apparently, bumpin' and grindin' isn't on the menu AND THEN... I look over and our youngest cat is pissing on the counter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WTH?! I know I didn't buy litter at the store yesterday but SERIOUSLY?! ONE DAY LATE in changing the litter?! COME ON!! You see, my husband is very anal about the litter box. He scoops it everyday and changes the litter entirely every week, like clockwork. Well, Walmart was out of the little bags of litter that I normally buy AND with my still- jacked-up shoulder, I can't lift the 40 lb. bags of litter; so, I just didn't buy any...I thought what's the big deal...Brian can get some ...
